Nestled in the Bowmanville neighborhood just 10 miles north of Downtown Chicago, Rogers Park Montessori School, established in 1966, serves children ages 2-14. We have a proud tradition of teacher collaboration and support. The students, teaching faculty, and parents of our five 6-9 classrooms, four 9-12 classrooms, and one Middle School classroom comprise a close-knit school community. Currently, we are seeking motivated teachers with strong organization and communication skills who value working as part of a dynamic, creative team to join our school community. 

Candidates for classroom teacher positions must have a grounding in Montessori philosophy and have, or be working toward, AMS or AMI elementary certification. BS / BA degree is required.

Upper Elementary Classroom Assistant

 The Montessori School of Lake Forest is seeking an Upper Elementary Classroom Assistant (ages 9-12) for the remainder of the 2017-2018 school year. The Assistant works together with the Upper Elementary Directress to nurture, guide and teach children utilizing the Montessori method. The ideal candidate will be reliable, and possess a patient, positive, and firm but respectful manner toward children in his/her care.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and supportive respect for colleagues, children and families (required)
  • Supervising indoor and outdoor recess with children
  • Observing children, supporting class rules and class procedures, and overall supervision of the classroom
  • Sharing staffing responsibility for Club Days (vacation dates on which the school is open for enrolled families)
  • Assisting children in developing independence with self-care, with snack set-up/clean-up, lunch set-up/clean-up, and cooking projects
  • Assisting the Teacher in preparing and maintaining the environment, following Teacher’s instructions for the care and maintenance of classroom and materials, including classroom stocking, organization and daily cleaning
  • If directed by the Teacher, working with individual or small groups of children on limited and specific tasks or projects
  • Always projecting supportive attitude and employing positive language in all communications with all members of the school community at all times
  • If directed, helping maintain current, accurate classroom records

Qualifications include:

  • Good communication skills and strong work ethic
  • Investment in continuous learning and development
  • Ability to collaborate, multi-task and learn through observation and modeling
  • High School diploma required; two years of college preferred
  • Prior experience working with children preferred
