Objective

The Substitute Teacher understands and promotes MPA’s mission, vision, objectives and policies both within and outside the immediate school community. The Substitute Teacher is responsible for supporting a Montessori classroom environment and curriculum that supports the individual needs of the children in accordance with MPA’s mission, policies and procedures, and AMS Code of Ethics. In addition, the Substitute Teacher will ensure compliance in accordance with state, federal, DCFS, and local regulations.  


Qualifications and Responsibilities

  • The teacher will be respectful of children, parents, and colleagues, modeling Grace and Courtesy in all interactions. 

  • The Substitute Teacher, under the direction of the acting Lead Teacher, will ensure that equipment and facilities are clean, regularly inspected, and well-maintained. 

  • Demonstrates an ability to relate sensitively to people of all ages and varied backgrounds. 

  • Possesses a professional manner, personal characteristics and mental abilities necessary to work with young children, including: respect for each child and their background, sensitivity to individual’s needs and learning styles, ability to follow the acting Lead Teachers guidance with appropriate challenges to meet each child’s learning development, and exceptional amount of patience and flexibility.

  • Meets all staff requirements of local and state regulatory agencies including DCFS. 

  • Maintains current First Aid and Pediatric CPR certification.

  • Shares responsibility for the care, maintenance, and cleanliness of the classroom, playground, and materials. 

  • When student-teacher ratio is allowed, SubstituteTeachers are expected to assist with tasks necessary for maintenance of the facility and the instructional program, as assigned by the acting Lead Teacher, Head of School, or designated Administrative staff.

  • Comes directly to the Head of School or acting HOS with concerns

  • Fulfills cleaning responsibilities as applicable.

  • A Substitute Teacher must have the ability to see and hear children and to safely lift 15 pounds.

Schedule: MPA is open from 7:30-5:30. Depending on where you are needed will determine the hours.
